“A story that lays bare the tech giant’s hypocrisy, unchecked power, and its Supreme Ruler’s obsession with world domination—both digital and geopolitical.”
Lexi the problem is capitalism. Zuckerberg is a capitalist, none of what he is doing is surprising from a class standpoint.
Blaming capitalism is an over-simplification that normalizes Zuckie's unacceptable CEO behavior. A Board structure is supposed to protect shareholders by considering all stakeholders. However, Zuckie is such a tyrant that he structured the Fb Board to have no power or control over his wishes, like a Dictator.
Do you see how FB is unique in its disregard for a Board of Directors, their users, democracy activists and even capitalism? It's not enough for him to be a CEO. He has expanded the CEO role to a CEO with extraordinary powers that prohibits Board oversight of actions, even if it cozying up dictators and causes democracy activists to be killed. That is more like a Dictator than a CEO.
Zuckie clearly doesn't have a conscience, or commitment to democratic principles, or support free speech. That's not "capitalism." That's anti-capitalism and authoritian rule.
Capitalism is not the problem. The problem is a the unchecked power of the new tech oligarchy ruling class. That's the "class standpoint" we are at today.
The new Tech Oligarchy doen't care about users, the safety of users, even if it's creating a teen suicide epidemic. Moreover, Fb knowingly abuses our privacy, even if democracy advocates are imprisoned or killed in other countries, or pregnant woman are tracked by anti-abortion zealots in the US.
She nailed it when she wrote "a dictator in a hoodie."
Bro all CEOs exploit the labour of workers for their own benefit. It is a part of the system of capitalism. A system predicated on the exploitation of others. Do you not think such a system would encourage the rise of the worst humanity has to offer? An oversimplification that is not new to liberals is looking at things from an individualistic standpoint. You sit there and act that there are somehow “good CEOs” while Zuckerberg is a “bad CEO” without looking at deeper systems. All CEOs are bad and terrible because they’re emblematic of a harmful system.
I disagree. Many CEO's are fine people. Is Newman's Own Pasta Sauce an evil capitalist company that provides good jobs, a market for farmers, and a good product for consumers and donates a portion of their profits to charities?
Is Ben & Jerry's running an ice cream sweatshop up in Vermont? What about Employee owned businesses that share* profits in our capitalist system? Clearly, NOT "all CEOs exploit the labour of workers for their own benefit."
Is your hope is to do away with our Capitalist system? Hello! Are you a teenager living in your parents basement in the Republic of Portland and think society would be better if we all just blamed capitalism and switched to a utopian socialist society? Dream on! If so, I suggest you join the military because that's the closest you're going to get to a socialist society in the US.
FYI, the entire world is capitalist now, even Russia and China. The only question is what form of capitalism we, as American consumers, will permit, allow and support. By blaming "capitalism," you are implying that Zuckie's unacceptable actions are okay because that's the screwed up system we have. Sorry. I'm not buying that reasoning.
Capitalism has a very broad spectrum. Some of the spectrum is good, some is ok, and some is dangerous and unacceptable. Zuckie has crossed the line to the latter part of the spectrum.
And when a Tech Oligarch punkazz chump wants to take shareholder capitalism off the table, and look the other way when his company is creating a teenage suicide epidemic, and abuses our privacy, Im putting my foot down again and saying "Hell NO! Enough is enough is too much!"
There’s a lot of bullshit here to debunk and I’m not doing a lot of back and forth with you as what you just presented is a gish gallop. I will address a few of your points though. You don’t need to run a sweatshop in Vermont to understand that workers do not get paid in accordance with the value they produce. This relates to the theory of surplus value, companies will never give workers all the value they produce in wages as it would cut into their bottom line. US companies also greatly depend on cheap labor markets in developing countries, this applies to numerous brands and products.
You don’t need be in your parents basement to realize there are fundamental flaws within the capitalist system but a liberal such as yourself who benefits from said system won’t understand that. It’s not in your interest to see the flaws in something you benefit from this is why you support US imperialism by telling me to join the military. I don’t want to kill brown kids in predominantly Muslim countries for oil deposits just so I can have healthcare. That sounds absurd when you think about it.
Yes, you’re correct the entire world is basically capitalist and feeds into the capitalist-imperialist system. The system needs to be opposed and change whether it be China, Russia, or the USA. Capitalism is not an omnipresent god, it is a mode of production that can change like any other. How else do you think we went from a feudal system to a capitalist one?
Capitalism is an exploitative system that leads to imperial subjugation of the world as it actively destroys our ecosystems. It must be opposed and changed to something else that’s not like that, something like socialism.
If you really want to address workers being exploited, I suggest you help organize workers and labor rather than ignore people who are exposing the crimes against workers, like the Fb whistleblower, and dismiss the author's calling out Fb's attempts to cover-up their egregious actions.
I think your comment was a poo-poo on the author's piece. In a way, you diminished the important news she was sharing that took intelligence and courage. Then you "mansplained" our economic system to basically say, "don't hate the capitalist player, blame and hate the capitalist game."
Sorry, I don't think you should've dissed Lexi's story by diminishing the allegations against the rogue CEO, and then mansplailed our economic system to make that the real problem. I don't have much patience for people who want to tear down something that we don't have enough of, good journalism, and then defend someone like Zuckie who has violated others and myself more than you can imagine.
One day I pray that Zuckie will be held accountable for his greed. Don't take my comment personal. When I see someone dismiss important news that could be the crack in the dam that causes Zuckie to face justice in court, after what I've endured, I was offended. I think it is only right to applaud the author and share the news.
Shared ironically on fbook - lol. Let's see if they take it down
Hahaha Debbie you are diabolically amazing
Should I buy it on Amazon? That just doesn’t seem right to me. Convenient, but not right.
Imho: Better Amazon than many other options. Especially if you don't have a privately owned bookseller nearby.

Thank you for this post--i bought the book. It's incredibly good. And subscribed to your Substack!
